At Sol & Sumo, we are committed to bringing you fashion that is not only stylish but also rooted in quality and sustainability. A key part of this commitment is our dedication to partnering with local, world-class manufacturers in Portugal.

In this post, we’ll share why we chose Portugal, or perhaps more accurately, how Portugal chose us, provide some initial insight on our plans to engage the local fashion community, and our vision for launching our first Portugal manufactured collection.

Portugal’s Manufacturing Roots

Portugal has a rich history of textile and garment production, renowned for its craftsmanship, attention to detail, and increasingly its commitment to ethics and sustainability. The country’s manufacturing roots run deep, with a legacy of producing high-quality fabrics and garments that are celebrated worldwide.

Modern Clothing Factory

Brands like Zara, Pyer Moss, Daily Paper, and Foret have sought production in Portugal due to the country’s reputation for producing high-quality garments in ethical ways.

This tradition of excellence and ethical manufacturing makes Portugal the perfect partner for Sol & Sumo.

The Vibrant Ecosystem of Designers and Innovators

Portugal is also home to a vibrant ecosystem of fashion designers who bring innovation and creativity to the industry. Designers like Fatima LopesAna Penha e Costa of +351, Marita Setas Ferro of Marita Moreno, and Raquel and Sofia, the twin sisters behind SIZ are just a few examples of the incredible talent in Portugal. Many of the manufacturers also boast innovative design capabilities, both in fashion and in developing cutting edge textiles.

By tapping into Portugals talented community and vibrant energy, we aim to offer collections that reflect the spirit and zest of life that is central to Sol & Sumo.

Using Print on Demand to Get Started

To launch Sol & Sumo, we are leveraging print on demand technology. This approach allows us to produce high-quality apparel with minimal waste, ensuring that we can start our journey sustainably. It is the most efficient way for us to determine what designs resonate with our community of customers without the risk of major inventory mistakes. It has been an essential step in getting our business off the ground and connecting with our new customers.

Our Initial Portugal-Manufactured Collection

We are thrilled to be finalizing our first collection manufactured entirely in Portugal. This collection will be available late October 2024. It will feature  innovative, award-winning fabrics and exclusive designs that you won’t find anywhere else. Our partnership with Portuguese manufacturers ensures that each piece meets the highest standards of quality and craftsmanship.
